Anjunadeep warmly welcomes DJ Koze for his Anjunadeep debut with his remix of Lakou Mizik & Joseph Ray’s ’Sanba Yo Pran Pale’.
A pioneer of electronic music and one of the scene’s most respected tastemakers, DJ Koze has released on Kompakt, Get Physical, Yo Mama, and his own reputable imprint, Pampa Records. His album ‘Knock Knock’ came 3rd on Pitchfork’s best albums of 2018, whilst his single ‘Pick Up’ was name by Resident Advisor and MIXMAG as the best track of that same year. He has remixed the likes of The Gorillaz, Mount Kimbie, Caribou, Moderat, Apparat, and Underworld, and headlined festivals and clubs around the world.
A celebrated remixer, DJ Koze is known for his eclectic and refreshing musical approach. His take on ’Sanba Yo Pran Pale’ is no different. DJ Koze reimagines the traditional Vodou song as a summer dance anthem, warping and stretching the original vocals from Lakou Mizik’s Sanba Zao onto a bed of catchy rhythmic synths and warm enveloping bass. Ten minutes long, the original mix has a nostalgic analogue warmth that feels perfect for an Indian summer’s day. To celebrate the release, Anjunadeep is pressing a limited run of white label vinyl, which are available for pre-order now.
’Sanba Yo Pran Pale’ is the first track off Lakou Mizik & Joseph Ray’s album ‘Leave the Bones’, and is a traditional Haitian song steeped in vodou tradition: "The Sanbas are the poets and keepers of Haitian history and culture. They pass on their wisdom through song and story. ‘Sanba Yo Pran Pale’ is an invitation to the Sanbas to speak their truth whilst paying respect to the vodou ‘Lwa’ or spirits."
‘Leave the Bones’ has accrued 1M streams on Spotify and Apple Music, and has garnered a wealth of global support from the tastemakers such as BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, NPR, The Times, Billboard, Crack Magazine, Mixmag, Songlines, The New York Times, and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM. It is out now, available digitally and as a 2xLP.

Moodymann creates innovative soul funky music with deep 70s inspiration. The vocals are simply outstanding. A step back in time, 50 years ago! Superb. jef37

This collaboration is a perfect example of the innovation that can happen when electro and roots music serve, rather than fight, one another. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 22, 2020

My god, what an absolutely incredible Suite. I'll admit, I've struggled to get into Pharoah Sanders due to diving headfirst into some of his most challenging catalogue and that never worked. This is the perfect place to restart. Floating Points is new for me and I can honestly say I've never heard synthesizer music this lush and organic before. the LSO is just perfect. This is one of those albums that any serious music fan needs in their life. The perfect swan song for the great Pharaoh! 5/5 ClassyMusicSnob
